Phone: (253) 904-8673 Email: Barbara@Rios-Services.com Hello! I am Barbara Moore, the Owner of Rios Employment & Consulting Services, Inc. I am a member of both the Juaneño and San Pasqual Band of Indians and am the Ambassador to the State of Washington on behalf of the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians. Throughout the years, I was always concerned that the Native American community seldom accessed services for their tribal members with disabilities. By starting “Rios”, I felt I could bring personal services to our people and all individuals seeking services, that would impact them individually, as well as their communities. I implemented “Rios”* in 1996 with wonderful staff, who have continued to support our goal in finding and maintaining employment for all under-served populations.
In the past 40 years, I brought a vocational program to Pierce County and worked as a liaison between Pierce County and the Puyallup Tribe of Indians to develop improved services. I chaired the Chief Leschi School-to-Work Coordinating Council to improve service delivery for transitioning students. I implemented a disabilities program with the Emerald Queen Casino (affiliate of the Puyallup Tribal Nation), resulting in the placement of over 500 people with disabilities into competitive employment, and I co-wrote a grant with the Puyallup Tribe of Indians to the Department of Education that resulted in the tribe receiving the Projects with Industry Grant, allowing students of color to become gainfully employed.
I am passionate about what I do and love being a part of an individual’s path to realize their goals.
*Rios is named in honor of my Grandfather, Harry Rios. In Spanish, “Rios” means river, which to the Juaneño Band of Mission Indians, is a water source that cleanses, balances and provides us with sustenance.
